It is tricky to get your Location Plan right first time, here are some commonly made mistakes when creating your own location plan.
Frequent mistakes on Location plans submitted to councils include:
- Outlining too large or too small an area in Red
- Not including a blue outline, when necessary
- Missing off the north arrow
- Printing the map at the wrong scale
- Choosing an Incorrect scale
- Using out of date mapping
- Omitting the licence information for the map
What your Location Plan must include
When submitting a location plan with your planning application it should include the following items:
- Be based on up to date, reliable mapping
- Include the application area in red
- Include adjacent or nearby land owned by the same applicant in blue
- North shown
- 2 named roads
- A standard metric scale preferred by the council
- Printed accurately and to scale

What size will my Location Plan be?
Your location plan will be printed on A4 paper, or as an A4 pdf.
What format will my Location Plan be?
Your location plan will be either a PDF or a printed map.
How much does a Location Plan cost?
Our location plans are £27.50. We charge VAT on the email pdf copies, but the printed maps are VAT free.
How long does it take to get my Location Plan?
If you order your location plan to come as an electronic copy we will send it to your email address within the hour. If you would prefer a paper copy of your map we will send it by 1st class post.
Should my Location Plan be in Black and White or Colour?
Location plans can be produced in either Black and White or Colour. We produce our location plans in colour by default.
